Review of Rot, the new album from [;SITD:]

Remember waaay back when, when [:SITD:] released Snuff Machinery, it got remixed a bunch of times, and everybody loved'em? What happened then? Not Much. They put out another album called "Coded Message" which didn't seem to get heard, and then...and THEN..."Bestie:Mensch" Man, that album did not impress me much at all. I got the feeling it was a very personal album, but since I don't understand enough German to get all that they're saying, it wasn't very personal for me. The music was alright enough, but it just didn't grab me.

So, here we are with a new one, "Rot" which is German for "red" (pronounced "rote") and I can easily say it's better than "Stronghold", much better. It transfixed me, grabbed me, touched me (somewhat inappropriately) and I like it. My fav tracks are "Catharsis (Heal me, Control Me)", "Rot V1.0", "Pride", and "Redemption." Expect to hear "Catharsis" in the club and at least two of the others on this weeks show.

Not that the others aren't any good, in fact they have really gripped me. "MK Ultra" seems to be about getting clean, kicking drugs, etc., which, for one who's done that, is very relatable. "Destination" is slower with less distorted vocals, kinda touching really. All the songs have a great feel, seem to be put together with the finest craftsmanship, and i feel safe saying the band has really hit a stride with this disc.

Don't get me wrong, if an album sucks, i'll review that too, but I like this one and it's been on play for a few days now here in my lair. "Zodiac" is about serial killers and very dark and creepy; most of the songs are dark and creepy industrial, instead of brash and rebellious industrial. I like both kinds, but it seems rebellious has been more the trend than creepy, and I'm happy to hear some "go bump in the night" kinda sounds in the genre again.

So, I say, go get it! it's available at metropolis records. That's all I got for now. Tune in to 91.7 WMSE or online at www.wmse.org this thursday (tomorrow!) for The Industrial Zone, with yer host, ME!
